Confirmed : Graham Potter will no longer coach Super Eagles-eligible duo at Chelsea
Published: April 02, 2023With a statement on their official website, English Premier League giants Chelsea have announced the Graham Potter has departed the club.
Chelsea owners have decided to show Potter the exit door after only seven months in charge following a poor run of results in domestic competitions.
The Blues dropped into the bottom half of the table on Saturday after they were beaten 2-0 by Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.
Potter was appointed Chelsea coach in September 2022, replacing German Thomas Tuchel, and with the former Brighton manager in the Chelsea dugout, they were only able to win twelve matches from a possible 31, drawing eight and suffered eleven losses.
Bruno Saltor will take charge of Chelsea on an interim basis while they begin their search for a new permanent manager.
Potter seemingly gave the green light for Chelsea to sign England U21 of Nigerian descent Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window, while another Super Eagles-eligible player Carney Chukwuemeka was already at the club before the English football tactician was hired.
Under Potter, Chukwuemeka and Madueke struggled for playing time, with the midfielder making only one start and the winger named in the starting lineup twice.
Chelsea have ten Premier League games remaining and a quarterfinal clash against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League.
