'The deal was clear' - Reims chief hopes Balogun returns to Arsenal or joins another big club
Published: April 04, 2023Reims general manager, Mathieu Lacour has spoken about the future of Folarin Balogun, whose loan spell at the club will come to an end after the conclusion of the current season.
The England U21 international of Nigerian descent has been in exceptional form for Reims this season, registering eighteen goals and two assists in 30 appearances in all competitions, 17 of which have been scored in Ligue 1.
Balogun, whose international future is uncertain with him being eligible to play for England, the United States and Nigeria, is also unsure about where he will be playing his club football next season.
He has been linked with a return to Arsenal and is also being courted by other clubs should the Gunners decide to sell him in the summer.
The deal taking Balogun to Reims did not come with an option to buy and The Red and Whites could be priced out of a deal to sign him on a permanent basis considering the fact that he's on the radar of richer clubs.
Speaking with Prime Video, via Foot National, Lacour said: "The deal was clear with Arsenal and 'Balo'. We wish him the best for next season.
"I hope for him at Arsenal, maybe at another big club. It was a win-win deal and 'Balo' will be under other skies"
Balogun is one goal shy of equaling Glenn Hoddle's record of the most goals by an Englishman in a single campaign in Ligue 1 and will be hoping he can break the record before his loan term comes to an end.
