Arsenal-reared strikers Akpom, Tella nominated for Championship Player of the Month
Published: April 06, 2023Arsenal-reared strikers Chuba Akpom and Nathan Tella have been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month award for March.
Akpom and Tella were impressive for Middlesbrough and Burnley respectively, scoring a combined 10 goals.
Akpom is the leading top scorer in the Championship with 25 goals in 32 appearances and he was the recipient of the award in December.
The Boro striker scored in all four of his games, registering five goals and providing one assist.
Tella, on the other hand, is yet to be named the Player of the Month this season and will be hoping he beats Akpom and other nominees to the award.
The Southampton loanee bagged five goals in four games, registering a brace against bottom-placed Wigan and a hat-trick against Hull City.
The Nigeria-eligible duo will be contending with Viktor Gyokeres of Coventry City, who won the award in November, and Stoke City's right-back Ki-Jana Hoever, who scored 3 goals.
Coincidentally, Akpom and Tella are two of the leading scorers in the championship with 25 goals and 17 goals respectively and will be slugging it out for the rest of the season for the top scorer award, starting tomorrow night when Middlesbrough host Burnley at the Riverside Stadium.
