Napoli president provides key fitness update on Osimhen pre-AC Milan
Published: April 11, 2023Victor Osimhen is set to miss Napoli's UEFA Champions League first leg quarterfinal tie with AC Milan at the San Siro on Wednesday, April 12, according to Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Osimhen suffered a tear in the in the abductor muscle while on international duty with Nigeria during the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau.
The Serie A top scorer missed Napoli's huge loss to Milan and the win over Lecce last Friday in the Serie A and Luciano Spalleti was hoping he would have his top marksman fit to face the Rossoneri tomorrow but it has now been confirmed that he would have to make do without his top striker.
Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis was intercepted by some fans during his Easter holiday and was queried about Osimhen's availability for tomorrow's tie.
"Victor isn't in a position to play, unfortunately. We hope to have him back for the 18th at the Maradona at the latest," De Laurentiis was quoted as saying by Fantacalcio.
Osimhen's absence is a big blow to Napoli who are also sweating on the fitness of Giovanni Simeone, who sustained a muscle injury against Lecce.
The Nigerian striker has four goals in five Champions League games this season.
