FA Cup : 2019 Golden Eagles invitee unused sub as Man Utd overcome Brighton on penalties
Published: April 23, 20232019 Golden Eagles invitee Odeluga Offiah was an unused substitute for Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday evening as they lost 7-6 after extra time and penalties against Manchester United in the second semifinals tie of the Emirates FA Cup at Wembley Stadium. The game ended goalless at 90 minutes.
The 20-year-old Offiah has made three career appearances for the first team of the Seagulls, including featuring in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup last season.
Sunday's semifinal contest was played at a rapid rate in the first half as neither side seemed ready to play on the back foot.
With seven minutes played, 2022 World Cup winner, Alexis MacAllister curled a free-kick towards United goal and David De Gea almost lost sight of the ball in the sun but was able to turn past the post for a corner kick.
Brighton applied high press on the Red Devils at the back and deprived them of the space to get the ball out of their half.
Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen who has made a return to injury, worked the ball into the feet of Fernandes on the edge of the the Brighton box. The Portuguese turned and let fly a shot but it was gathered by Sanchez in the Brighton goal.
The game ended goalless in 90 minutes with extra time required but the 30 minutes produced no goal so the game had to be decided by penalties..
Solly March missed his decisive kick before Victor Lindelof converted his spot kick in the sudden death after both sides had scored their mandated five kicks.
