Man Utd view Osimhen as 'authentic alternative' to their top target Harry Kane
Published: April 23, 2023Manchester United remain admirers of Victor Osimhen but it has been claimed that the Napoli striker is not their main transfer target to bolster the attack in the summer.
Osimhen is Manchester United's alternative option for their striking position this summer.
Osimhen, who is the leading marksman in the Serie A with 21 goals, has caught the eye of Manchester United with his exceptional performances for Napoli this season.
Despite occupying the fourth position in the Premier League standings, the Red Devils have struggled in front of goal all season.
Only Aston Villa and Fulham have scored fewer goals than Manchester United's 46 goals among the teams occupying the top half of the Premier League table.
And this explains why the Old Trafford outfit are in the market for a striker.
While Manchester United are keenly interested in Osimhen, Tottenham forward Harry Kane is Erik ten Hag's first choice for the striking position, according to The Daily Star.
Kane has netted 24 goals in the Premier League this season, three more than Osimhen has tallied for Napoli in Serie A, though the English forward has played more matches.
The England captain has one year left on his contract and Spurs could be open to selling him rather than lose him for nothing at the end of next season.
Should Manchester United fail to land the signature of Kane, Osimhen is seen as an authentic alternative to the Tottenham Hotspur striker.
The Nigerian scored in Napoli's 1-1 draw with AC Milan in the Champions League last week with Manchester United scouts in attendance at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
