Brentford boss confirms Super Eagles-eligible forward is in the squad to face Chelsea
Published: April 25, 2023Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of the London derby against Chelsea, Brentford manager Thomas Frank confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible forward Kevin Schade will be in the matchday squad for Wednesday's game under the lights.
The Germany international was feared injured in his last outing for the Bees, against Aston Villa on April 22, leading to his substitution for Yoane Wissa in the 77th minute.
Frank revealed that the German-Nigerian was replaced because he was fatigued, and reckons that he was outstanding in the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.
Since Schade's arrival from SC Freiburg in the January transfer window, the 21-year-old has been selected in every matchday squad named by the Danish football tactician - fourteen in total.
Brentford are making things easy for Schade by gradually introducing him to the demands of the Premier League.
"He's available for tomorrow - it was cramp, just fatigue, " Frank was quoted as saying by Brentford's official webpage.
"As I said before, for me, it was his best performance in a Brentford shirt, very pleased with that.
"We knew, when he came from Freiburg, that we had to build him to play with an even higher intensity because he hasn't played that much senior football in his career.
"He's working very hard to get to that level."
Meanwhile, Frank Onyeka's chances of making Brentford's starting lineup against Chelsea are high.
Christian Norgaard, the player Onyeka replaced at halftime against Aston Villa, is not in contention to face Chelsea due to an Achilles problem.
