PL2 : Chelsea top scorer 2021-2022, Fiabema makes his season debut on final day of campaign
Published: April 29, 2023Bryan Fiabema had to wait until the final day of the 2022-2023 Premier League 2 season to make his first appearance for Chelsea's development squad this term amid speculation surrounding his future at the London club.
The Norway underage international of Nigerian descent was a shock inclusion in the matchday squad as Chelsea fell to a 4-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove at Kingsmeadow on Friday evening.
He was Chelsea U21s joint top scorer last season with eight goals to his name, comprising four in the Premier League 2, three in the UEFA Youth League and one in the Papa Johns Trophy.
Prior to the visit of the Seagulls, you had to go back to February 9, 2022 for the last time Fiabema featured for a Chelsea side, and that was against Racing Genk in the knockout round of the UEFA Youth League when he played for fourteen minutes for the U19s.
Since then he has gotten playing time at loan clubs Rosenborg and Forest Green Rovers, where he was supposed to spend the entirety of this season before he was recalled in the January transfer window.
Having sat out ten straight games contested by Chelsea's development squad, he was named in the matchday squad against Brighton & Hove and came off the bench for the last seven minutes, replacing Harvey Vale.
Fiabema could not do much to help Chelsea when he came on as they were already trailing by three goals.
Andy Moran (2) Hinshelwood and O’Mahony were on the scoresheet for the Seagulls, while Leo Castledine netted a consolation for the Blues who are second in the provisional standings.
