Lampard lauds 'very sharp' Madueke; confirms winger was unwell on Wednesday, Thursday
Published: May 06, 2023Frank Lampard was on media duties shortly after his side's 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday evening - the Blues' first win since his return to the dugout on a caretaker basis.
Conor Gallagher with a header broke the deadlock in the first half, a first Chelsea goal from Benoit Badiashile restored the lead after Vina's equalizer and Joao Felix made it certain with a fine first time finish.
Frank Lampard vowed to give Noni Madueke more playing opportunities after his goal against Arsenal and the Chelsea legend kept to his word by naming the former PSV star in the starting lineup for the second consecutive match.
Although The England U21 international of Nigerian descent did not get on the scoresheet, he was one of Chelsea's best players on parade at the Vitality Stadium as he troubled Bournemouth for most parts of the game with his pace and ability to run in behind the defence.
Lampard confirmed that the Anglo-Nigerian winger was unwell on Wednesday and Thursday, which makes his performance today more impressive.
Reacting to Madueke's performance, Lampard told Chelsea's YouTube page : "Noni was very sharp, considering he was not so well on Wednesday, Thursday. He trained yesterday.
"I thought he was really good against Arsenal in a tough game and got his goal. And again today, he's got a fantastic one-on-one ability to go past people.
"I like him as a lad, he's got really good energy. He will know that because he's hungry, and I want that. It's been a breath of fresh air, him coming in, and he's training well to deserve that."
Madueke has now totaled four starts from a possible fifteen since his arrival from PSV in the January transfer window.
