Ryan Trevitt slotted into the bottom corner to break the deadlock in the 32nd minute after a low driven corner by Gilbert and Young-Coombes made it 2-0 at minute 42, firing Trevitt's cutback in off the bar.
Zak Gilsenan pulled one back for Blackburn Rovers in the 87th minute when he slotted home from close range after a header wasn't dealt with, but by then it was too late for the visitors to find an equalizer.
