Romano reveals Napoli want Osimhen to break transfer record held by Chelsea-owned striker
Published: May 10, 2023Italian transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Napoli want Victor Osimhen to break the Serie A transfer record for outbound transfers held by Romelu Lukaku.
Chelsea broke the Italian transfer record when they re-signed the Belgium international for a fee of €113 million in August 2021, but the deal did not work out as planned and he's now back at Inter Milan on loan.
Lukaku also became Chelsea's most expensive player in history, before the record was broken by Argentina's World Cup-winning midfielder Enzo Fernández, who was brought in from Benfica for a fee of 121m euros in the winter transfer market.
Romano has confirmed that Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea are interested in Osimhen but Napoli have not yet determined a price tag for the Nigeria international.
Osimhen's stock has risen after an excellent season at Napoli, helping them win their first Serie A title in thirty three years and he's the favorite to claim the top scorer award with 23 goals to his name, four matches to the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Speaking on CBS Soccer Podcast, House of Champions, Romano stated : "There's a possibility, a concrete possibility, for Victor Osimhen to leave Napoli.
"The feeling I have is that they want to break the record for the biggest sale in the history of the Serie A with Romelu Lukaku's 120m euros to Chelsea.
"They want more than that to sell Victor Osimhen. This is the feeling around Napoli.
"To mention clubs interested, Bayern for sure, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United and Chelsea.
"These four clubs have an interest in Osimhen but all of them are still waiting for Napoli to say 'okay this is the price tag, you can come with your proposal'. This is why the process is still slow."
Osimhen has approximately two years left on his contract with Napoli whom he joined from Lille for a fee of 70 million euros in 2020.
