Super sub Musa scores for Manchester United youth team in friendly against Blackpool
Published: May 10, 2023England youth international Victor Musa came off the bench to salvage a draw for Manchester United U21 team in an end-of-season friendly against Blackpool at Bloomfield Road on Tuesday night.
Against the Seasiders, Musa initially started on the bench along with another teenager of Nigerian descent Maxi Oyedele, who has returned to Old Trafford after a loan spell with National League outfit Altrincham.
Central defender Johnson Opawole, a player with Nigerian roots, started and was in action for 89 minutes for Blackpool.
Twenty eight minutes into the contest, Brad Holmes opened the scoring with a powerful effort after his initial effort was blocked by a Manchester United defender.
Oyedele came off the bench in the first half to replace Charlie Wellens, who couldn't continue due to injury.
After entering the game as a substitute, Musa leveled matters in the 70th minute when he fired home a curling effort.
Aged 16 and in his final season as a schoolboy, Musa has already signed a scholarship deal with Manchester United and will be among the new intake of academy scholars for the 2023-2024 season.
He scored 6 goals in all competitions for Manchester United U18s in the recently concluded season, and also impressed at the MLS Generation Cup.
