Portuguese, English clubs interested in defender called up by Peseiro for March internationals
Published: May 11, 2023Bruno Onyemaechi has emerged as a transfer target for clubs in Portugal and England, according to reports.
Onyemaechi has yet to make his debut for the Super Eagles but was called up by manager Jose Peseiro for a glamour friendly against Portugal last November and retained his place on the roster for the back-to-back 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau in March.
The CD Feirense-owned left-back arrived at Boavista on a season-long loan with an option to buy included in the deal.
Portuguese sports daily A Bola writes on its website that the Panthers are pleased with the performance of Onyemaechi and intend to trigger the purchase option, which will mean an investment of around one million euros.
Boavista have been approached by Primeira Liga and English teams to find out the conditions of buying the Nigerian fullback, so there's a possibility of him being sold immediately after he is signed on a full deal by the Panthers.
Onyemaechhi has been a revelation in the Portuguese top-flight this season, starting 27 of the 31 matches contested by Boavista.
And he offers versatility across the back line as he is capable of playing as a left-back, central defender and left wingback.
Onyemaechi's contract at CD Feirense runs out on June 30, 2024.
