2022 Olympic Eagles invitee confirms return to Arsenal after loan spell
Published: May 18, 20232022 Nigerian Olympic national team invitee, Tim Akinola has confirmed that he is returning to parent club Arsenal following the expiry of his loan spell at National League club Chesterfield.
As exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com earlier today, Chesterfield will not be signing Akinola on a permanent basis after missing out on promotion to the Football League following defeat on penalties to Notts County in the playoff final at Wembley on May 13.
Akinola was involved in thirty one games combined in the National League and Emirates FA Cup during his loan spell at Chesterfield, and totaled 1.324 minutes across those games.
Signed from Huddersfield Town in 2020, Akinola was loaned out to Scottish club Dundee United in second half of last season to experience a taste of first-team football but a serious ankle injury he suffered limited his appearances to only one game.
In a bid to return to match fitness, he opted to join fifth tier side Chesterfield on a season-long loan last September as there was no place for him in the Arsenal first team.
Akinola took to Instagram on Thursday evening to announce his departure from Chesterfield.
The 22-year-old wrote : "Unlucky to lose in the finals but thanks for the loan spell I had here".
