Mebude misses out on Premier League 2 Player of the Season to Man City teammate
Published: May 23, 2023Scotland underage international of Nigerian descent, Adedire Mebude has missed out on the Premier league 2 Player of the Season award, with the Premier League confirming on Tuesday morning that the prestigious award has gone to his Manchester City teammate Carlos Borges.
Borges was selected by a panel of the Premier League Football Development Department
This is the third successive season that the Premier League 2 Player of the Season has been won by a Manchester City development squad player.
Borges has followed in the footsteps of James McAtee and Liam Delap who won the PL2 Player of the Season in 2022 and 2021 respectively.
Mebude had been nominated for the accolade alongside Oscar Bobb, Carlos Borges (both Manchester City),Dominic Ballard (Southampton), Reyes Cleary (West Bromwich Albion), Mateo Joseph Fernandez (Leeds United), Alfie Gilchrist (Chelsea) and Jack Wells-Morrison (Crystal Palace).
The British-Nigerian winger played a pivotal role as Manchester City lifted the Premier League 2 title, scoring eleven goals and contributing a further thirteen assists.
Mebude was also nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for January 2023, but missed out on the award to Manchester United's Joe Hugill.
Previous winners of the Premier League 2 Player of the Season award are Swansea City's Oliver McBurnie (2017), Arsenal's Reiss Nelson (2018), Brighton & Hove's Aaron Connolly (2019), Liverpool's Curtis Jones (2020), Liam Delap (2021) and James McAtee (2022).
