CIES report suggests Manchester United and Chelsea target Osimhen is valued at N38.1b
Published: June 07, 2023In their latest weekly post, the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) have published the top 100 estimated transfer values, with Manchester City's Erling Haaland, Real Madrid's Vinícius Júnior and Arsenal's Bukayo Saka the top three most expensive players in the world.
According to the statistical model developed by the CIES Football Observatory, Victor Osimhen's estimated transfer value is 77.3 million euros (approximately N38.1 billion in Nigerian currency).
In reality, Napoli value their number 9 in the region of 150 million euros, which is an astronomical fee even for Premier League clubs.
Manchester United want to bolster their attack in the summer transfer window and have been linked with the Nigeria international and other targets.
Apart from Osimhen, Harry Kane, Rasmus Hojlund, Randal Kolo Muani, Goncalo Ramos, Lautaro Martinez and Dušan Vlahović have been mentioned as options to been up United's attack.
Inter Milan's Lautaro Martínez (€100.7m), Benfica's Gonçalo Ramos (€82.3m) and Juventus' Dušan Vlahović (€79.3m) are more expensive than Osimhen because they are all tied to their respective clubs until the summer of 2026, while the Napoli star has two years left on his contract.
Chelsea are also actively combing the market for a world-class striker and have been linked with a move for Osimhen.
The signing of a center forward is necessary as the Blues managed 38 goals in the Premier League over the course of last season, with their top scorer Kai Havertz accounting for seven.
