Aston Villa beat Tottenham to sign Golden Eaglets-eligible player for a fee of N930m
Published: June 14, 2023Aston Villa have reportedly won the race to sign Golden Eaglets-eligible player Jamaldeen Jimoh.
According to the Express & Star, Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign teenage starlet Jamaldeen Jimoh from the Baggies in a deal worth around £1million (approximately N930 million in Nigerian currency).
Aston Villa have pulled off a massive transfer coup by luring the Anglo-Nigerian midfielder to Villa Park as several top clubs in the Premier League were keen on his signature.
The 16-year-old was extensively scouted by Tottenham Hotspur with a view to a potential move but the north London club were unable to match Villa's offer to the player.
Although Jimoh is out of contract this month, West Brom are due a compensation because he's an U24 player and was offered a scholarship deal ahead of next season.
Per the report, West Brom will receive money if Jimoh is sold by Aston Villa, having inserted a ten percent sell-on clause into the deal taking him to the Premier League side.
By agreeing a deal with Aston Villa, Jimoh has followed in the footsteps of another teenager of Nigerian descent Tim Iroegbunam who swapped the Baggies for the Lions in the summer of 2021.
