Barcelona interested in signing Arsenal's Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian midfielder
Published: July 02, 2023Spanish giants Barcelona are interested in the services of Arsenal's Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian midfielder Miguel Azeez.
As revealed by Sport, Barcelona want the young midfielder to join their B team ranks as they seek to gain promotion from the Primera Federación to the Segunda division next season.
Per the report, Barcelona are hoping to strike a deal with Arsenal which will see the 20-year-old join as a free agent despite having a year left on his contract but with the Gunners retaining a sell-on clause.
Azeez is one of the highly talented products from the famous Hale End Academy but has struggled to adapt to first-team football which has cast doubts over his future.
He was initially loaned out to UD Ibiza in the Segunda division in the first half of last season but found his game time limited, making 10 appearances without any goal contribution.
The English-born midfielder was then loaned out to English League One side Wigan Athletic but continued his struggles there, registering only 2 appearances.
If the deal goes through, Azeez will be the second Hale End Academy product after Marcus McGuane to leave Arsenal for Barcelona in recent seasons.
Azeez was born in London to a Spanish mom and Nigerian father, making him eligible to represent the national teams of Emgland, Spain and Nigeria.
