Manchester United block Oyedele from representing Poland at U19 Euro
Published: July 02, 2023Premier League giants Manchester United have blocked Maximillian Oyedele from representing Poland at the 2023 UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
The talented central midfielder was a shock omission from the squad announced by the Polish Football Association last week.
According to Sportdziennik, Oyedele was not included in the traveling squad to Malta because Manchester United did not agree to his departure for the final tournament, arguing that the first team was preparing for the new season.
Born in Manchester to a Polish mother and Nigerian father, Oyedele has featured in nine out of the ten matches played by Poland U19 squad since the beginning of last season, missing only the friendly against Malta.
Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag promoted the Flying Eagles-eligible player to first team training before the Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur in April.
The Dutch football tactician also observed him at close quarters before his side faced Francis Uzoho's Omonia Nicosia in a UEFA Europa League clash in October 2022, and took him to Spain for a training camp in December.
Oyedele impressed during a loan spell with National League club Altrincham FC in the second half of last season, scoring four goals in twelve appearances and was in the running for the club's Goal of the Season accolade.
The 18-year-old has been on the books of Manchester United since the age of seven, after spells at Beechfield and Burnley.
