Arteta promotes Nwaneri to first team training ahead of Arsenal's trip to Germany
Published: July 05, 2023Spanish football tactician Mikel Arteta has promoted talented England U17 of Nigerian descent Ethan Nwaneri to first team training before his side's first pre-season fixture against FC Nürnberg, according to reports.
The Gunners first team players will head to Germany next week to face the 2.Bundesliga side and it remains to be seen whether or not the Anglo-Nigerian wonderkid will be named in the traveling squad.
Arsenal youth team guru, Jeorge Bird has informed that Nwaneri was among the academy starlets selected to train with the first team at London Colney on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old recently ended speculation about his future by signing a scholarship deal with the Gunners, which will be upgraded to a professional contract as from March 21, 2024.
Aged 15 years and 181 days, he became the youngest player to feature in the English topflight when he made his senior debut for Arsenal against Brentford last September.
Since his historic debut, the attacking midfielder has not played competitively for the first team, but was given minutes in friendly matches against Juventus, Lyon and AC Milan in December 2022.
The Gunners will face MLS All-Stars, Manchester United, Barcelona and Monaco in friendly matches before battling Premier League champions Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday, August 6.
