Chukwuemeka trains for the first time under Chelsea's new boss Pochettino

Despite being on international duty last month at the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup in Argentina, England U20 international of Nigerian descent Carney Chukwuemeka has reported for pre-season training at Chelsea, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

Chuwkuemeka trained for the first time under Chelsea's new boss Mauricio Pochettino during Tuesday morning's workout at Cobham training center.

The Anglo-Nigerian was among the Chelsea players put through their paces by Pochettino and assistant first team coach Miguel D'Agostino in the training session on Tuesday.

The Argentine football tactician is expected to continue running the rule over Chukwuemeka before making a decision on whether to keep him in the squad or sanction a loan move away from Stamford Bridge.

Touted to be one of the most exciting teenagers in European football at the moment, Chukwuemeka struggled for game time in his first season at Chelsea after joining them from Aston Villa.

The Golden Boy nominee started two out of a possible fifty games contested by Chelsea in 2022-2023, and will be aiming to catch the eye of Pochettino during pre-season preparations.

Chukwuemeka's rivals for a starting spot in midfield, namely Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, N'Golo Kanté, Mateo Kovacic, Tiemoué Bakayoko and Denis Zakaria, have either been sold or released, thereby brightening his chances of breaking into Chelsea's starting XI next term if he is not loaned out to continue his development.
