Cannavaro warns Napoli that PSG or Man Utd will sign Osimhen if they want Serie A player
Published: July 06, 20232006 World Cup winner and onetime FIFA World Player of the Year, Fabio Cannavaro has shared his thoughts on the future of Nigeria international Victor Osimhen at Napoli.
This summer, Osimhen is on the wishlist of all the top European clubs in the market for a traditional number 9 after a banner season that saw him score score 31 goals in 39 games across all competitions.
The 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup winner was the architect of Napoli winning their first Serie A title in 33 years, netting the title-winning goal in a 1-1 draw at Udinese on May 4, and thanks to the Nigerian, the Blues were dreaming of Champions League glory until they were eliminated from the competition by AC Milan.
With two years left on Osimhen's contract, Napoli have offered him a two-year extension with improved terms, but at the same time the Parthenopeans are open to the sale of the number 9 if they receive a mammoth offer for his services.
Cannavaro has stressed that either Manchester United or Paris Saint-Germain will go all out to sign Osimhen if they decide to acquire a player in the Serie A.
Asked to comment on the future of Osimhen taking into consideration PSG have given Kylian Mbappe an ultimatum, Cannavaro told La Gazzetta dello Sport via Foot Italia: "Surely clubs like Paris Saint-Germain or Manchester United-the ones that need a center forward the most-if they decide to take a player from Italy, they will.
"These are the forces in the market, no use deluding ourselves. De Laurentiis has correct business concepts and organizationally he has proven himself.
"He has succeeded in making the fans understand that one can also change while remaining competitive."
With 26 goals in the topflight last term, Osimhen became the fifth player to win the Scudetto and the caponannoniere in the same season in the last 30 years, following in the footsteps of some legends of the game Marco van Basten, David Trezeguet , Andriy Shevchenko and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
