Published: July 12, 2023With a statement on their official website, 8-time La Liga champions Athletic Bilbao have announced the signing of Liverpool's Spanish-born Nigerian winger Elijah Gift.
Although the length and financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed by Athletic Bilbao, allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Gift has put pen to paper on a five-year contract and Liverpool will receive one million euros in transfer fee for agreeing to terminate their contract with the winger before its expiration.
Athletic Bilbao have stressed that Liverpool have allowed Gift to train with the club, pending the completion of all the formalities for the arrival of his transfer.
As per the press release from Athletic Bilbao, Gift will initially start his career with Athletic Bilbao's C team, CD Basconia, who competed in the Tercera División RFEF or the fifth-tier of Spanish football in 2022-2023.
The 17-year-old indicated two days ago that he was leaving Liverpool but did not disclose the identity of his new club.
On Wednesday, he took to Instagram again to confirm his transfer to Athletic Bilbao.
Gift wrote: "Delighted to be back home and even more delighted to have the opportunity to join this great club. Excited to get going and show myself on the pitch."
Born in Corella, Gift was named in Spain's provisional squad for the 2023 European U17 Championship but missed out on the final roster.
