Talented Swedish-Nigerian winger rejects Barcelona in favour of Lecce switch

Through their official website, Italian Serie A club Lecce have announced the signing of Sweden underage international of Nigerian descent Jeremy Agbonifo.

By signing a contract at Leece, the winger has ended his association with Portuguese giants Porto, whom he represented in last season's UEFA Youth League.

The winger will begin his career at Lecce with their Primavera 1 squad and could be featuring in the UEFA Youth League again next season given that Lecce are champions of the Primaveria 1.

According to Fotbolltransfers.com, Agbonifo  has signed a contract with Lecce until 2025 with an option for another two years.

Agbonifo had a concrete contract proposal from Barcelona to decide on, but he chose Lecce because the step to the first team is much closer.

Celta Vigo, Bologna and a few more clubs also showed serious interest in Agbonifo - who also snubbed an extension with Porto.

In November 2021, the Swedish-Nigerian left BK Häcken to become a youth teamer at Porto.

Agbonifo, who has been capped by Sweden at U18 level, links up with Patrick Dorgu at Lecce.
