Done deal: Manchester United youth product Odubeko joins C.S. Marítimo
Published: July 17, 2023Republic of Ireland U21 international of Nigerian descent Mipo Odubeko has embarked on an exciting new chapter in his career.
With a statement on their official website, Portuguese second-tier club C.S. Marítimo have announced the signing of the Manchester United academy product.
Odubeko has put pen to paper on a two-year contract that will keep him at C.S. Marítimo until at least June 30, 2025.
The 20-year-old is joining The Green-and-Reds on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at West Ham United, where he spent four years, rising through the youth team ranks before making his professional debut against Stockport County in the third round of the Emirates FA Cup.
As a Hammer, he took in loan spells at Huddersfield Town, Doncaster Rovers and Port Vale in order to play first team football on a regular basis, and ended up making 49 appearances for the three clubs in total, in which he scored six goals and registered two assists.
Odubeko was renowned for his goalscoring prowess for West Ham United's youth teams, with 17 goals in 19 games for the development squad in the Premier League 2 and Papa Johns Trophy, and netted 11 goals in nine games for the U18s in the U18 Premier League and FA Youth Cup.
The Irish-Nigerian youngster trialed at VVV Venlo this month and was linked with French clubs before agreeing terms with C.S. Marítimo.
1980 Africa Cup of Nations winner with the Super Eagles, Sylvanus Okpala represented C.S. Marítimo for two years during his playing days.
