Chelsea include two young stars of Nigerian descent in USA tour squad
Published: July 17, 2023Chelsea have included two Super Eagles-eligible players in their 29-man squad for the United States pre-season tour.
As announced on the official webpage of the Blues, young midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and dazzling right winger Noni Maduke have been named alongside 27 others for the club's pre-season tour to the US.
Chukwuemeka joined Chelsea from Aston Villa last summer and struggled for game time in his first season at Stamford Bridge, making only two starts from his fifteen appearances in all competitions.
This explains why he has been linked with a move away from the club on a loan deal but will now have the opportunity to impress his new boss, Mauricio Pochettino during the pre-season.
The 21-year-old Maduke also didn't have the best start to life at Stamford Bridge upon his arrival from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window but finally sparked into life towards the end of the season, starting 5 of the last six Premier League games in 2022-2023.
The right winger continued with that form in the U21 European Championship where he assisted England to win the competition.
Pochettino's side will be facing English sides Wrexham, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United and Fulham before they square up against Borussia Dortmund in their last game during their United States tour.
Meanwhile, Faustino Anjorin - back to Chelsea after a season-long loan spell at Huddersfield Town - missed out on the roster amid speculation linking him with a temporary departure from the Blues.
