Gillingham cool their interest in Liverpool academy product Ojo
Published: July 19, 2023Ambitious League Two club Gillingham have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Liverpool academy product Sheyi Ojo.
Gillingham had been linked with a move for the 2017 Fifa U20 World Cup winner but Sunday Mirror reporter Darren Witcoop has now claimed that the Priestfield Stadium is unlikely to be his destination this summer.
Ojo ended his fifteen-year stay at Anfield with a transfer to Cardiff City, to whom he is contracted until June 30, 2024.
The winger has resumed pre-season training at Cardiff City amid speculation linking him with a departure from the Welsh club.
Since his arrival at the Bluebirds, initially on loan before signing a permanent deal following his release by Liverpool, he has appeared in 81 matches, scoring seven goals and notching seven assists.
During his time at Liverpool, he also enjoyed loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, Reims, Glasgow Rangers and Millwall.
The Watford-born player logged thirteen first-team appearances for Liverpool, and was on target once in an Emirates FA Cup third round replay versus Exeter City in January 2016.
