Done deal: Barcelona product breaks African transfer record with move to Man Utd

Former Cameroon international André Onana has broken an African transfer record with his transfer to Manchester United, subject to international clearance.

The 27-year-old has pen to paper on a five-year deal with the option for a further year.

Onana has joined the Red Devils after a banner season at Inter Milan, helping them reach the Champions League final where they were narrowly beaten by Manchester City.

He was a key member of the Inter squad that won the Supercoppa Italiana and the Coppa Italia.

The Barcelona academy product has been traded to Manchester United in exchange for €52.50million, making him the most expensive African goalkeeper in history.

The previous record was held by Senegal international Edouard Mendy who moved to Chelsea for a fee of €24million back in September 2020.

In 255 appearances as a professional at club level, Onana has kept 104 clean sheets, and  won three Dutch Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups during his time with Ajax Amsterdam.

For the forthcoming season, Onana has been assigned the number 24 jersey.
