Official: Arsenal-reared midfielder Nwakali joins Portuguese club Chaves
Published: July 21, 2023With a statement on their official website, Portuguese Primeira Liga club Grupo Desportivo de Chaves have confirmed the signing of Arsenal-reared midfielder Kelechi Nwakali.
Chaves were silent about the financial terms and duration of the contract signed by the 2015 Fifa U17 Wold Cup-winning captain with the Golden Eaglets.
However, allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that Nwakali has appended his signature to a three-year contract that will keep him in the north of Portugal until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
The Trasmontanos confirmed the capture of Nwakali on Thursday evening following a successful medical examination.
With his transfer to Chaves, the talented midfielder has ended a one-year association with SD Ponferradina, whom he joined in 2022 after his release by another Spanish club SD Huesca.
During his time at SD Ponferradina, the Super Eagles star participated in 36 League games and one Copa del Rey.
Nwakali has some experience of playing in Portuguese football, making sixteen appearances for Porto B, on loan from Arsenal during the 2018-2019 season.
Apart from the aforementioned clubs, Nwakali lists MVV Maastricht, VVV Venlo and Alcorcón among his previous employers.
