Fulham reach club-to-club agreement with Ajax on N18.1b transfer fee for Super Eagles LB
Published: July 22, 2023Fulham have reached an agreement with Ajax Amsterdam for the signing of Super Eagles left-back Calvin Bassey.
According to transfer market expert David Ornstein of The Athletic, Fulham have agreed to pay 21 million euros (approximately N18.1 billion in Nigerian cuurency) plus sell-on fee to the Dutch giants for the services of the Nigerian defender.
As per the report, the completion of the deal is still subject to the 10-cap Nigerian International agreeing personal terms with Fulham and passing his medical.
Bassey joined Ajax last season for close to 23 million euros but failed to live up to expectations, struggling under Alfred Schreuder and Johnny Heitinga, the two managers that were in charge of the Dutch side last season.
Despite his struggles, the 23-year-old was able to feature in 39 appearances across all competitions and registered six goal contributions.
Should the Italy-born defender complete a move to Craven Cottage, he will have to contend with Tim Ream, Issa Diop and English-born defender of Nigeria descent Tosin Adarabioyo for a place in the starting XI.
Bassey's ability to play as a centre-back and left-back will be useful for the London-based side as they seek to improve on their 10th-place finish in the Premier last season in the new campaign.
