Boniface signs 5-year Bayer Leverkusen deal, RUSG to receive N17.3b plus bonuses
Published: July 22, 2023Through a statement on their official website, German Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface on a permanent deal from Belgian team Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
Boniface has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at the BayArena outfit until June 30, 2028.
Although the transfer fee is undisclosed, allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Royale Union Saint-Gilloise will be paid 20 million euros (approximately N17.3 billion) plus bonuses for agreeing to shred their contract with Boniface before its expiration.
Bayer Leverkusen have acted fast to bring in the Nigerian after Patrik Schick suffered an injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a long time.
Last season, Boniface was involved in 34 goals (22 goals, 12 assists) in 55 appearances combined for Bodo/Glimt and Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
He also impressed in the Europa League, finishing as the joint-top scorer in the competition with six goals including his strike against Bayer Leverkusen in the quarterfinals first leg, and was named to the Team of the Tournament by UEFA's technical study group.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Boniface stated: "A special opportunity I definitely wanted to take up. I've already experienced the atmosphere here at the stadium and back then was able to assess the possibilities at this club.
"After our talks I now know: This is a top club with a brilliant team. I'm really looking forward to playing football here and I want to play my part in the future success of Bayer 04."
For the upcoming season, Boniface will wear the number 22 jersey at Bayer Leverkusen.
