Udogie, Iheanacho in starting XI but waterlogged pitch cancels Tottenham v Leicester friendly
Published: July 23, 2023Tottenham Hotspur fans missed an opportunity to feast their eyes on Italy U21 international of Nigerian heritage Destiny Udogie on Sunday morning as a friendly against Leicester City at the Rajamangala National Stadium (Bangkok) was canceled due to a waterlogged pitch and adverse weather conditions.
Udogie is back at Tottenham Hotspur after spending the whole of last season on loan at Udinese and had a fairytale beginning to his career at the north London club, having netted twenty five minutes into his debut in a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United on July 18.
Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou would have been impressed with Udogie's display against the Hammers considering the fact that he was named in the starting lineup against the Foxes.
Nigeria national teamer Kelechi Iheanacho was included in Leicester City's starting lineup and Wilfred Ndidi would have started from the bench if the game was not canceled due to heavy rain in Thailand's capital Bangkok.
First the match was postponed to see if the rain would subside but that did not happen so the event organisers, based on a recommendation from the match officials, deemed the pitch unplayable and unsafe.
The two English clubs will now head to Singapore for their next pre-season games.
Tottenham Hotspur face Lion City Sailors at the National Stadium in Singapore on Wednesday, July 26, while Leicester City will not be in action until July 30 when they take on Liverpool.
