Ambitious EFL club interested in signing Chelsea midfielder of Nigerian descent

Ambitious EFL League One club Reading are reportedly interested in signing former England youth international of Nigerian descent Faustino Anjorin this summer.

Sunday Mirror Sports Editor Darren Witcoop has tweeted that Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin is to leave Stamford Bridge on a season’s loan amid interest from EFL and clubs from abroad.

Anjorin, who is on paper a first team player at Chelsea, appears not to be in the plans of new Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino given that he was left out of the club's pre-season tour to the United States and has been training with the so-called 'loan army'.

As per the report, Chelsea prefer Anjorin to remain in England to play in the Championship rather than a foreign team, and the player is now mulling over his options.

The 21-year-old has not played for Chelsea since he made the last of his five first team appearances against Barnsley in the fifth round of an Emirates FA Cup fixture back in February 2021.

He has been loaned out to Lokomotiv Moscow and Huddersfield Town in recent seasons but the moves did not exactly work out due to injury issues.

Anjorin will compete for a spot in midfield with 2013 Golden Eaglets invitee Ovie Ejaria if his switch to the Select Car Leasing Stadium materializes.

He has two years left on his contract at Chelsea, whom he joined at U9 level.
