N3.24m solidarity payment IRO Samuel Kalu's transfer: Watford's registration ban lifted by Fifa
Published: July 24, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that the recent registration ban imposed on Championship club Watford by football's governing body, Fifa has been lifted.
The Hornets had been banned from registering new players internationally with effect from July 19, 2023 because they failed to comply with their financial obligation towards Nigerian grassroots club Megamu Football Academy.
Fifa also informed the English Football Association to immediately ban Watford from registering new players at the national level.
Nigeria international Samuel Kalu joined Watford from Bordeaux in January 2022 and Megamu Football Academy were due a solidarity payment of €3,750.00 (three thousand seven hundred and fifty euros), equating to N3.24 million in Nigerian currency, because they were involved in training the winger in his formative years as a footballer.
Watford's ban has now been lifted after the Championship outfit made the outstanding payment to Megamu Football Academy.
Kalu has not lived up to his billing since moving to Vicarage Road and has also struggled for game time, making only four starts from a possible sixty six in all competitions across one and a half seasons.
The 25-year-old was involved in Watford's most recent pre-season friendly, coming off the bench for the last thirteen minutes of a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace.
