Sheffield United interested in signing Middlesbrough's Nigerian goal poacher

Sheffield United are looking to bolster their offensive ranks after sealing a return to the English Premier League.

According to Alan Nixon, via Football League World, The Blades are interested in signing Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough as a replacement for Senegal international Iliman Ndiaye, who switched to Marseille this month.

Akpom's future at Middlesbrough has been in doubt for the last few months following the club's failure to secure promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs.

Several clubs in England and abroad have been linked with the Hale End Academy graduate but it seems his suitors have yet to firm up their interest in the 27-year-old by tabling an official bid to Boro.

Akpom earned a reputation as a goal scorer last season, finishing the campaign with 28 league goals to win the Championship Golden Boot.

With one year left on his contract, Middlesbrough have opened talks with the player and his camp on an extension but no agreement has been reached.

Should Akpom not sign a new deal in the coming weeks, Boro have to make a decision on whether to cash in on the attacker or allow him run down his contract

Per the report, it is claimed that Sheffield United will test Boro's resolve to keep hold of the Super Eagles hopeful with a bid in the region of  £8 million.
