Pundit warns Crystal Palace about dangers of allowing Chelsea, Man City target Olise leave
Published: August 04, 2023Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards has predicted that Crystal Palace will be in trouble if they sell Chelsea and Manchester City target Michael Olise this summer.
This is because he feels that the club cannot afford to lose the young Nigeria-eligible winger and Ivorian International Wilfred Zaha, who has left for Galatasaray, in the same window.
Olise was in brilliant form last season and played a vital role to help secure the Eagles' stay in the Premier League for at least one more season.
The performance of the 21-year-old has attracted the interest of Chelsea as well as Manchester City, who want him to replace former African Player of the Year, Riyad Mahrez.
Edwards has warned the London-based club of the danger of losing the Nigerian-French winger and his former teammate Zaha at the same time.
"This could mean big problems for Palace. They have already lost Zaha and Olise was their player of the season last year. He managed 11 assists and is a really good young player," Edwards told BBC's Transfer Gossip Daily podcast.
"They did not have a great season, having to bring Roy Hodgson in out of retirement. If Olise goes so soon after Zaha, that will be two huge gaps to fill in the squad.
"It is not guaranteed he will go of course, but the fact so many are looking at him. He is a highly rated young player and everybody wants players of that mould.
"If Manchester City come calling, he's going to leave."
Olise is currently nursing a hamstring injury he picked up while on International duty with France in the U21 European Championship.
He is set to miss Crystal Palace's first set of games in the Premier League which starts next weekend with a trip to Sheffield United.
