Nigeria-eligible player Chukwuani sends message to Man Utd's latest signing Hojlund
Published: August 05, 2023Manchester United have announced the signing of Denmark international Rasmus Højlund on a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until June 30, 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.
The capture of Højlund from Atalanta suggests that the Red Devils are unlikely to make a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window.
Højlund thrived in the Italian Serie A last season with nine goals and four assists in 32 matches, and on the international stage, he has averaged a goal per game for Denmark's national team.
Only Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman (13) and Teun Koopmeiners (10) scored more league goals that Højlund in the Atalanta squad last season.
Aged 20, Højlund has been compared to another young Scandinavian striker, Manchester City's Erling Haaland, who broke several records in his maiden season in England, netting 52 goals in 53 all-competition appearances.
Lyngby's Nigeria -eligible midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, who was born in Denmark just like Højlund, is delighted with the striker's move to Manchester United.
Højlund posted on Instagram after his signing was confirmed: "Lets get started. So happy to be part of the biggest club In the world! I want so say a huge thank you for the warm welcome at Old Trafford".
Replying to Højlund's post, Chukwuani wrote in Danish:"Vi ses" (translated to English, see you), accompanied by handshake and heart emojis.
Chukwuani was scouted by Manchester United talent spotters during Denmark's European U21 Championship qualifier against Wales in June.
