'Every kid's dream is to play in the PL' - Bassey reacts after first goal in Fulham colours
Published: August 05, 2023Calvin Bassey scored his first goal in Fulham colours as the Cottagers ended their pre-season schedule in a perfect way by beating German club Hoffenheim 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The Nigeria international switched to Fulham from Ajax Amsterdam last month, signing a four-year deal until the summer of 2027, with a club option to extend for a further twelve months.
Bassey could be a threat from set-pieces in the new season and he showed that against Hoffenheim by scoring with a bullet header after a perfect delivery from Andreas in the 73rd minute.
The 23-year-old is hoping he has done enough to earn a place in Marco Silva's starting lineup ahead of Fulham's season opener against Everton next Saturday.
Speaking to FFCtv after the win against Hoffenheim, Bassey said: "I'm buzzing. Every kid's dream is to play in the Premier League and that has been my dream.
"Hopefully I do enough for the manager to put me in the starting lineup and then I do all I can for the team."
Reacting to his goal, Bassey is hoping to bring his aerial ability to the team and also shared the conversation he had with the Fulham manager about set-pieces.
"We've done set pieces. We practiced them and the manager asked where I feel comfortable and I told him I like going across the front, use my pace to beat players.
"It was a beautiful ball from Andreas so I didn't really have much to do, just try to direct and keep it on target and I was happy to see it go in."
Bassey has made two career appearances against Premier League teams and it came against Liverpool in last season's Champions League.
