UCL qualifier: Dessers scores in his competitive home debut as Rangers beat Servette

In his competitive home debut for Glasgow Rangers, Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers opened his goalscoring account for the Light Blues in their  2-1 win over Servette in the first leg of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League played at the Ibrox on Wednesday night.

James Tavernier gave the home side the lead in the 6th minute from the penalty spot.

Dessers doubled the lead in the 15th minute when he found himself in the perfect position to put Borna Barišić cross at the back of the net.

Chris Bedia halved the deficit for Servette from the penalty spot a minute before halftime.

Another Super Eagles player in Leon Balogun has to wait to make his season debut for Rangers as he was a non-playing substitute for the second game in a row.

Dessers fired blanks on the opening day of the Scottish Premiership when the Gers lost 1-0 to Kilmarnock and came under criticism from fans.

Micheal Beale would be glad that the 28-year-old finally got his first goal for Rangers and will be hoping he can continue to find the back of the net for his side.

The Scottish outfit's next game comes up on Saturday when they host Livingston in their first home game of the season in the Scottish Premiership.
