'Yes it is' - FCK coach confirms Reading-linked striker Mukairu is mulling over a transfer
Published: August 14, 2023Paul Mukairu was left out of FC Copenhagen's traveling squad to the Czech Republic for their crucial Champions League third qualifying round clash against Sparta Prague because a transfer is on the cards, manager Jacob Neestrup told reporters at the pre-match press conference on Monday.
Football Insider has claimed that League One outfit Reading want to bolster their attack by signing Mukairu on a season-long loan deal.
The fact that Reading boss Rubén Sellés was an assistant manager at FC Copenhagen until last summer gives credence to the reports of a possible move for the Nigerian forward.
There is speculation surrounding the future of Mukairu as he has not featured in any of the seven competitive matches played by FC Copenhagen in the new season.
Neestrup confirmed that the Nigerian is not in Prague because he was given time off to mull over his options.
In quotes relayed by bold.dk, Neestrup said: "Yes it is. It is not certain that he would have been there anyway, because Paul has not received his rightful playing time from me in relation to his talent and how hard he works on a daily basis.
"So Paul is out investigating other possibilities and it is the starting point that he has to leave."
Since transferring to FC Copenhagen from Antalyaspor in January 2022, Mukairu has played in 25 games and provided one assist.
His contract with the Danish champions expires in 2025.
