Dessers scores and assists for Rangers in 2-1 win v Morton, but gives away another penalty

Cyriel Dessers scored and assisted as Rangers defeated Greenock Morton 2-1 in the second round of the Scottish League Cup played at the Ibrox Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Grant Gillespie gave Morton the lead in the 53rd minute but the lead will only last for seven minutes as Dessers restored parity for Rangers on the hour mark from the penalty spot.

The Morton midfielder converted a penalty awarded after Dessers clipped Kirk Broadoot inside the box.

Dessers also gave away a penalty during Rangers' Champions League qualifier against Servette ten days ago.

The Super Eagles forward would also be involved in the Gers' winning goal as it was his lovely pass that found Danilo who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.

This performance should serve as a sigh of relief for Dessers who has come under scrutiny from fans and pundits since the start of the season.

The former Cremonese forward has now netted two goals for the Scottish giants with both coming in cup competitions, one apiece in the UEFA Champions League qualifiers and the Scottish League Cup.

Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun was also in action for Rangers in their victory over Morton.

The veteran defender came close to getting on the scoresheet but was denied by the woodwork in the 55th minute

Rangers are back in action at the Ibrox Stadium on Tuesday when they take on PSV Eindhoven in the playoff round of the UEFA Champions League qualifiers.
