Verona interested in signing Southampton's Nigeria international midfielder
Published: August 19, 2023Italian Serie A club Hellas Verona are being linked with a summer move for Nigeria international Joe Aribo.
According to Sky Sports UK, Verona are interested in signing Southampton midfielder Aribo, with a loan move with a buy option being considered by the Italian club.
The left-footed player has struggled for game time since transferring to the St Mary's Stadium, making 13 starts from a possible 38 games in the Premier League last term.
And things have not improved in the new season as he was given only one minute in Southampton's first two Championship games, before logging a paltry seven minutes against Plymouth Argyle this afternoon.
The former Charlton Athletic man returned to England last summer with a huge reputation having won the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup, and was one of the standout players as Rangers reached the final of the 2021-2022 Europa League.
Aribo was linked with a possible move to Turkish Super Lig giants Besiktas but the interest has gone cold following their capture of two midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Bakhtiyor Zaynutdinov.
The 27-year-old has a contract with Southampton until the end of the 2025-2026 season.
