Chukwuemeka scores first senior goal for Chelsea but goes off injured against West Ham

Carney Chukwuemeka opened his goalscoring account for Chelsea when he netted in their 3-1 loss to West Ham United on Sunday evening at the London Stadium.

 

It was also he first senior goal in what was his 33rd career appearance combined for Aston Villa and Chelsea.


​Nayef Aguerd opened the scoring for the Hammers within the first 10 minutes of the encounter from James Ward-Prowse's corner.



Chukwuemeka restored parity for Chelsea in the 28th minute with a beautiful strike having initially gotten past his marker Tomáš Souček with a drop of the shoulder.


​The 19-year-old would have his day ruined as he had to come off due to an ankle injury he picked up during the closing stages of the first half.


West Ham got their second through Michail Antonio in the 53rd minute whose powerful shot could not be prevented from finding the bottom corner by Robert Sánchez.

 

Lucas Paquetá sealed the Hammers' victory in the 95th minute from the penalty spot after Moisés Caicedo brought down Emerson.


Anglo-Nigerian forward Noni Madueke made his season debut in the encounter having come on in the 75th minute for Conor Gallagher.


The 21-year-old had the chance to get his name on the scoresheet but had his shot deflected.


​Lesley Ugochukwu who made his league debut against Liverpool last week was an unused substitute in the game.
