Confirmed Crystal Palace team news: Ex-Nigeria U17 invitee will not face former club Arsenal
Published: August 21, 2023Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that he will not be able to count on the services of 2019 Nigeria U17 invitee Malcolm Ebiowei when his side face Arsenal in a London derby on Monday under the lights at Selhurst Park.
Ebiowei was not involved in Crystal Palace's opening day win at Sheffield United and did not figure for the U21s in their Premier League 2 games against Manchester United and Reading.
The Hale End Academy product will not be facing his former club Arsenal - against whom he made his Premier League debut in the very first game of the 2022-2023 campaign.
Ebiowei is back at Crystal Palace after spending the second half of last season on loan at Hull City, where he made twelve appearances in the Championship, including five as a starter.
The exciting winger was on the books of Arsenal for four years before moving on to pastures new in 2019.
Providing a squad update before the visit of Arsenal, Hodgson told Crystal Palace's official website: "We still don’t have Will Hughes. We still don’t have Malcolm Ebiowei, because he’s not been there from the start.
"The young Brazilian boy, Matheus [França] is still in rehabilitation – we don’t quite know when he will be there for us – and of course we don’t have Michael [Olise]."
Another former Nigeria national team invitee, Michael Olise also has to wait for his season debut as he is recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered while on international duty with France at the 2023 European U21 Championship.
