Steve Cooper reveals Awoniyi's wife had a baby while Nottingham Forest were playing Arsenal
Published: August 22, 2023Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper has revealed that Taiwo Awoniyi's wife delivered a baby while his side were facing Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on matchday one of the Premier League.
The Super Eagles forward started the game on the bench and came on in the 71st minute to replace Danilo as Forest attempted to reduce their 2-goal deficit.
He would go on to reduce the deficit in the 82nd minute after he was set up by Anthony Elanga from a brilliant counterattack.
Cooper has praised the former Union Berlin forward who still turned up for his team despite the condition of his wife
In quotes relayed by NottinghamshireLive, the Welsh manager said: "He's a really humble guy who just wants to work hard and play for the team.
"His wife had a baby while we were playing Arsenal, so I'm really pleased they had an amazing week."
Awoniyi also netted in Nottingham Forest's win over Sheffield United last week which made him become the Nigerian player with the longest scoring streak in Premier League history having scored in six consecutive games.
The Nigeria International could equal Mohammed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor's record for the longest scoring streak by an African player when Forest face Manchester United on Saturday.
