Son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star, Arsenal GK make full debuts for England U16
Published: August 25, 2023England U16s were held to a 1-1 draw in the second of their two friendlies against hosts Italy on Thursday afternoon at the Federal Technical Center in Coverciano, with two Golden Eaglets-eligible players making their full debuts for the Young Lions.
Arsenal goalkeeper Owen Asemota was named in England U16s starting lineup and was on the pitch for approximately one hour before he was substituted.
Asemota has been promoted to England U16s for the 2023-2024 season after previously playing for the U15s.
Chelsea starlet Landon Emenalo also made his starting debut for England U16s after he was an unused substitute in Tuesday's friendly.
Landon is the son of former Chelsea technical director Michael Emenalo, who shone for the Super Eagles in the 1994 World Cup, where he went the distance in three of the four matches played by the three-time African champions.
It is worthy to mention that it's not a case of nepotism that Landon was signed by Chelsea as he's a very promising player, considering the fact that he's good enough to play for England's youth teams.
England earned a draw thanks to Arsenal starlet Theo Julienne, whose header canceled out Oliver Blini's early opener.
