'He's worked on his finishing' - Hargreaves urges Man Utd reshuffled backline to keep an eye on Awoniyi
Published: August 26, 2023Former England international and Red Devils legend Owen Hargreaves has urged Manchester United's reshuffled backline to find a way to prevent Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi from causing damage in Saturday's Premier League clash at Old Trafford.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will not be able to count on the services of defenders Tyrell Malacia and Luke Shaw, who are both sidelined due to injuries.
Against Manchester United, Awoniyi is aiming to equal an African record of being the third player to score in seven consecutive Premier League matches, after Mohamed Salah and Emmanuel Adebayor.
The 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup winner ended last season with six goals in four games and he's very much in-form in the new season, having found the net in each of Nottingham Forest's opening two matches.
Hargreaves highlighted that Nottingham Forest are most dangerous when they are on the counter-attack and warned the Manchester United defenders to be on their guard.
Speaking on Premier League Productions on Friday night, Hargreaves remarked: "He (Awoniyi) is playing in these spaces, running into these channels, and he's really worked on his finishing.
"I think on the counter-attacks in transition with Gibbs-White, obviously Danilo and Awoniyi is amazing.
"They are a really interesting side, Nottingham Forest, the way they approach the games."
Awoniyi did not get on the scoresheet in two Premier League games against Manchester United last season and missed the Carabao Cup semifinal fixtures due to a groin issue.
