Tottenham Hotspur expert reveals why Brennan Johnson is more expensive than Gift Orban
Published: August 29, 2023Tottenham Hotspur insider and Football.London reporter Alasdair Gold has explained why he thinks Brennan Johnson is more expensive than Gift Orban.
Tottenham Hotspur are looking to strengthen the squad with the signing of a striker following the departure of club legend Harry Kane to Bayern Munich.
Spurs are in the market for a young attacker with potential and the recruitment team has beamed its searchlight on Nottingham Forest's Brennan Johnson, KAA Gent's Gift Orban and Lille's Jonathan David who are all aged 23 and younger.
Manager Ange Postecoglou has prioritized the signing of Johnson over the Nigerian and Canadian strikers and the north London club are expected to go all out to sign the Wales international before the window closes.
David is valued in the same bracket as Johnson, around £50 million, while Gent will demand in the region of £26 million to part company with their exciting attacker who has taken Belgium and Europe by storm since landing at the Ghelamco Arena in the January transfer window.
Gold reckons that Johnson is more expensive than Orban simply because the Welshman has Premier League experience unlike Orban who is untested and a bit raw.
Speaking on his latest YouTube video on Monday night, Gold explained: "When you look at Brennan Johnson - different kind of player. I'd say Gift Orban works through the center whereas with Brennan Johnson we've seen him maybe more out on the flanks especially right flank last season, but obviously can play centrally and on the left.
"With Brennan Johnson he's ready-made, we know he can score in the Premier League. He's just 22 so he's a bit more of a known quantity, that's why you're seeing a different price tag.
"Gift Orban they're talking about 30 to 35 million. With Brennan Johnson we're talking about 50 and it's that extra 15m pounds which is essentially valuing his readiness for the Premier League, and the other aspect of all of it is how just insane the transfer market values are now."
Orban has been in sensational form since turning professional with 45 goals and nine assists in 53 appearances combined for Stabæk Fotball and Gent.
