Tottenham Hotspur target Gift Orban staying put at Belgian club Gent
Published: September 01, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Tottenham Hotspur target Gift Orban will not be leaving KAA Gent in the summer transfer window.
The free-scoring Nigerian attacker was a Plan B if Tottenham Hotspur missed out on their top target, Nottingham Forest forward Brennan Johnson.
Tottenham will no longer be pursuing a deal for Orban after striking a deal with Nottingham Forest over the acquisition of the Wales international, who will arrive the north London club for a fee of around £45 million.
Orban was a cheaper alternative to the Welshman as Gent valued the Nigerian in the region of 30 million euros.
The Lilywhites tested the waters regarding the signing of Orban, having opened a line of communication with the player's camp, but did not firm up their interest by making an official bid to Gent.
Orban was also a player of interest to Lille but the proposed transfer hinged on the departure of Canada international Jonathan David, which did not materialize.
There was every indication that he was staying put at Gent beyond the end of the summer transfer window, with manager Hein Vanhaezebrouck naming him in the starting lineup for Thursday's Europa Conference League playoff tie against APOEL in Cyprus.
Orban has roughly four years left on his contract with Gent, whom he joined from Stabæk Fotball in the January transfer window.
