No chance: Ndidi staying put at Leicester City amid rumours of deadline day move to Fenerbahce
Published: September 15, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Super Eagles stand-in captain for their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against São Tomé and Príncipe, Wilfred Ndidi will not be departing Leicester City amid speculation linking him with a deadline day move to Fenerbahce.
It is correct that Fenerbahce are interested in signing the holding midfielder but a move will certainly not happen on deadline day in Turkey as Foxes boss Enzo Maresca sees him as an integral member of his squad.
Maresca has been given a mandate by the powers that be at Leicester City to help the former Premier League champions secure promotion back to the English top flight.
Selling Ndidi to Fenerbahce without signing a replacement does not make sense, so there is no chance of the move coming to fruition on Friday.
European clubs are reluctant to commit to many African players in one team due to the Africa Cup of Nations which will commence in January 2024.
Fenerbahce have in their ranks Bright Osayi-Samuel (Nigeria) and Alexander Djiku (Ghana), who are likely to be on the plane to Ivory Coast in January.
Ndidi has started four of the five games played by Leicester City in the Championship, which shows that he's in the plans of Enzo Maresca, and he has made a further two appearances in the League Cup, scoring two goals and providing an assist.
The Nath Boys product is in the final year of his contract at Leicester City, whom he joined from Racing Genk in January 2017.
